Permanent LED lighting gives you a programmable outline you can run in any color you want. For Chicago sports fans, that means navy and orange for the Bears, red and blue for the Cubs, black and silver for the Sox, or red and white for the Blackhawks. Here is how it works.
One of the most common questions we get from south suburban homeowners is whether they can program their permanent lighting in team colors. The answer is yes, and it is one of the most enjoyable features of the system.
How Programmable Permanent Lighting Works
A permanent install is a thin LED channel mounted once along your roofline, eaves, soffits, or other architectural features. The hardware is designed to disappear during daylight. The LEDs inside the channel are full color, and you control them from a smartphone app.
That means warm white is your default. But you can switch to anything else in seconds.
Bears Game Day
Navy and orange. Run a solid alternating pattern down the roofline or chase the colors across the front of the house. Light up before kickoff, leave it on through the game, switch back to warm white when the family is asleep.
Cubs and White Sox
Cubs fans run Cubbie blue and red, often around opening day in April and through the playoff push in September and October. White Sox fans run black and silver, sometimes with a red accent for older jerseys. The app supports custom color combinations so you can match the exact shade you want.
Blackhawks
Red and white with chase patterns work great for hockey season. Several of our clients run it from October through the playoffs.
Practical Considerations
Programmable lighting is not just a sports trick. Most clients use the same system for the holidays (red and green in December, orange and purple for Halloween, red white and blue for the Fourth of July), for family events (school colors at graduation, baby blue or pink for a new arrival), and for everyday curb appeal (warm white nightly).
The hardware investment is one-time. Once it is installed, you are not paying for design or hanging or takedown each season.
A Note on Tasteful Use
A few of our clients are subtle about it. Warm white for daily curb appeal, full team color treatment on game day only, and back to warm white when the game ends. That is how most people end up running it. The flexibility is the point. You can be loud when you want and invisible when you do not.
Booking Permanent Installs
Permanent installs are best done in dry weather. We book most of them April through September. If you want it ready for the next Bears, Cubs, or Sox season, call us in the off-season and we will get you on the calendar.
