Holiday & Permanent Lighting in Western Springs & La Grange

Tudors, Prairie-style, Victorians, and center-entrance Colonials with original trim that has been there a hundred years. These are the houses where the attachment plan matters more than the light strand does.

Serving Western Springs & La Grange

Drive time from our Orland Park base: roughly 25-30 minutes north. These two villages sit on our northwest route with Hinsdale and Burr Ridge and get dedicated route weeks in season.

Original material drives the whole design here. Western Springs and La Grange have genuinely historic housing stock - original woodwork, period trim, slate and tile roof sections, older masonry, and detail work that cannot be replaced. Nothing gets stapled, nailed, or glued to any of it. Attachment is all-clip and matched to the material, and on the oldest houses we frequently route the roofline run entirely to the gutter line or fascia and handle the rest from entry treatments and ground-level uplighting - so that no fastener goes near original material at all.

On Tudors specifically, the trim is the opportunity. A Tudor's half-timbering, steep gables, and eyebrow dormers are the most interesting thing about the house, and a lighting plan that follows those existing lines looks extraordinary. A plan that ignores them and runs a straight line across the front wastes the architecture. We design to the lines the house already has - which on a Tudor takes more measuring and more separate runs, and is worth it.

Slate and tile need different handling. Brittle, expensive to match, and not traversed or fastened like asphalt shingle. We do not use shingle clips on tile, and where slate should not carry a fastener, we route to the gutter line or fascia.

Restraint on historic elevations. These houses do not need help being interesting. The right plan is usually a clean, warm-white run following the architecture's own lines plus a considered entry - and then stopping. If we think an addition to your plan would subtract from the house, we will say so.

Ice-storm construction. Tightened clip spacing, minimized unsupported spans, sealed connections, commercial-grade product.

Takedown and storage included - with the same care coming down as going up, because removal is where careless crews cause damage on historic material.

Permanent lighting on a historic home

Two arguments, and on this housing stock both are strong.

Roof traffic. A seasonal install means someone on your slate, tile, or hundred-year-old shingle twice a year, every year, forever. Over a decade that is twenty visits onto material that cannot easily be replaced. Permanent is one careful install and then nobody is on the roof again. On a historic house, the traffic is the risk - not the lights.

Invisibility. A permanent channel under the eave disappears in daylight. On a Tudor or a Prairie-style house, that is precisely what you want: the architecture stays the thing you look at, and after dark the lines the house already has get quietly lit. Warm white as the standing setting reads as architectural lighting rather than decoration, which on this stock is the whole difference between looking right and looking wrong.

We assess each house individually. On original material, attachment is decided case by case, and sometimes the honest answer is a gutter-line-only plan with the entry and the trees carrying the rest.
